Blogger banned in India

For how long?

Now this is very interesting.

I didn't blog directly about the recent terrorist attacks in India (for personal reasons), but this attack seems to be getting a lot of attention, especially because the general public is being dragged into all of it. Blogger (or blogspot.com ISP addresses) were blocked along with 17 other websites, as the government had suspicions of the attack being planned by terrorists online through journals/blogs.

Am I the only one who thinks this is ridiculous?

If not Blogger, there are a PLETHORA of other free hosting sites that could have been used. And by bringing this kind of attention, they're making a lot of blogs and personal journals stand out... why? Just because few people happen to feel very strongly about certain ethical/political issues. And some official was heard commenting that it wasn't just directed at the July 11th attacks, but at the manner in which "These blogs are pitting Muslim against non-Muslim" (ABC News Online).

Ugh.

If such statements can make me post on my blog about how hate can divide us all (AND this is ME who tries to blog about ANYthing but controversial topics), I don't blame the many others who must have blogged their thoughts and feelings over similar issues.

Blogs act as an outlet for feelings, opinions and thoughts. And the best part of it all is that one can keep one's anonymity. It allows you to see the world and meet a ton of other people who you couldn't have met otherwise... I've read journals on here about happy-go-lucky people, sadists, people who have been raped, people who blog about school, people who help others, people who show their part of the world through photoblogs, people who write so beautifully it makes you cry, people who are ignorant, people who are extremists, people who are techno-savvy educating and helping others, people who communicate with family and friends far away.

And all of this is online!

Who could have imagined it 20 years back? Who could have imagined us being this close to a person oceans apart? By blocking websites without thinking it through is irrational. I'm not saying it is not possible for terrorists to communicate through such weblogs, but it isn't the only way the government can handle the situation. Ironically, terrorists attacks (maybe even from similar groups) can be seen in Jammu & Kashmir almost every single day and yet, nothing is done. The border force is taking care of our front there, we have it all under control. Now, why would someone attack a metropolitan city...

I don't get it. Really.

It is how the world is today -- technological, internet-savvy (people have already posted ways to skip over the bans AND who knows who those people ARE, jeez some group of individuals sitting in posh chairs really need to open their eyes). And the sooner the government realizes it and thinks up something more logical and more constitutional/democratic, the better.

ps. I've tried not to type a lot of what I think on here and preferred to sound more brief. I may have come out to strongly on a few topics here... but meh. It wasn't supposed to offend anyone. If you feel like slaughtering what I said, feel free to do so. It's your opinion.

dont worry....this blog ban will go away soon. the indian administrators are not really known to be the brightest bulbs around.

you = wrong major babe :D

I get what you're saying but I think they'll retrace what they did.

lol hope so Ravin...

Well, I dunno Miles. Now that I read it, I could almost laugh at what I've written... I guess it was on the spur of the moment & it got tangled with a lot of bs I've been hearing frm my friends from India who're going abroad, leaving the country because there's no hope. It messes me head a bit, heh. And yep, my dad was in the administration... but not everyone can be my dad :-) the majority is like what Ravin mentioned.

haha, nah uh AnonymouslyUrs! I'm going to electrocute all them pplz after learning the basics of electronics! I swear! ;-)

I think most governments are irrational on some of their decisions. They are all the same...like random said, "they are not the brightest of bulbs around". :)
